Research - Economic Forecasting
The Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) has operated an economic forecasting service, known as the FOR-UNM Economic Forecasting Service, since 1979. Using a PC-based econometric model of the New Mexico economy, BBER creates an economic forecast for the entire state and the Albuquerque, Farmington, Las Cruces and Santa Fe metro areas four times a year. Forecast variables include nonfarm employment by sector, personal income, unemployment rate, civilian labor force, oil production, natural gas production, and housing. The forecasts are then sold to clients of the forecasting service, and are also packaged in newsletter format and sold to the public on a subscription basis. A limited amount of forecast data is available for free.
