Research - Socioeconomic Research
The Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) conducts research on a wide range of social and economic topics relevant to New Mexico's policymakers. Specifically, BBER's staff has expertise in the following areas:
- Economic impact analysis
- Public finance and fiscal analysis
- Demographic estimates and projections
- Community and regional economic development
- Policy analysis
BBER's approach to socioeconomic research combines an intimate knowledge of local and national information sources, interdisciplinary methodologies, and an appreciation of the role of socioeconomic research in policy formulation and implementation. Examples of recent research include analyses of the impact of the living wage ordinance on the City of Santa Fe, the role of arts and cultural industries in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, the benefits and costs of consolidating the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County, and community economic assessments of various New Mexico communities that are participating in the State's MainStreet program. BBER's socioeconomic research clients include The City of Santa Fe, the New Mexico Economic Development Dept., the City of Albuquerque, the McCune Charitable Foundation, the New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority, the New Mexico Association of Grantmakers, and Intel.
