House Memorial 1, passed by the NM House of Representatives in the 2011 regular session, requested the UNM Bureau of Business and Economic Research to convene a task force to define family-friendly policies and practices and to study policy options related to paid maternity leave, paid time off, part-time employee benefits, policy incentives for family-friendly small businesses, employment-based child care and other issues that will improve the health of women and families by addressing economic security. No funding was provided for the taskforce and work in the first year was performed on a voluntary basis.
When the interim report was presented, the legislative committee urged the taskforce to do more outreach to the business community. SB272, as introduced by Senator Ortiz y Pino (2012 regular session), would provide a $75,000 appropriation to fund a series of outreach efforts in the second year.
